Sarab is mainly both a town and a Khanate. Khanate is an old fashioned term of district or state. Sarab is famous for its rugs. The rugs of Sarab which can also classify as Heriz style carpet are light rather bright in colors. The usual adjective of the word “Sarab” is “sarab-I” which is later one changed as Serapi. In 1876, when Prince of Wales made a trip to India, the Sarabi Rugs came to the market of England and then spread out all over the world. So, the carpet known in the trade of Serapi is coming clearly from the old Sarab Khanate.
