Decking Your Halls with Oriental Rugs This Christmas
With Christmas just a few more weeks away, most homeowners have already put up their decorations or will do so this weekend. One question that might cross their mind during this process is the best way of integrating Oriental rugs into their Christmas decor. After all, as you “Deck the Halls with boughs of holly,” you don’t want your unique centerpiece rug to feel out of place.
Here are a few tips to help get you started.
Working With What You Have
This option is one to remember if you like to update your decorations regularly. If a new Oriental rug isn’t in your budget until next Christmas, try buying ornaments and decorations that match your current rug’s colors.
Strategic Rug Placement
The first thing you’ll need to consider while integrating Oriental rugs into your Christmas decor is your current — and seasonal — living room layout. Where is your rug at this moment? Where will you then be placing your tree? Some with smaller homes have to rearrange their living room layout to accommodate their tree.
Will you use a tree skirt (more on this in a moment)? How big of a tree will you set up or purchase? Where will your television go if it needs to be moved?
All of these surround the idea of moving furniture. When doing so, you should also move your rug to make it functional amid the changes you’re making to your decor.
Avoiding Tree Skirts
A moment ago, we mentioned your tree skirt. Do you use one? Perhaps you could skip it this year with a couple of these ideas.
First, if you have a round Oriental rug of a slightly smaller width, could you place it under your tree this year? Of course, you’ll want to be mindful of the type of tree you have. Metal legs could damage your rug, so consider putting some padding under them. With a fresh-cut tree, we recommend being cautious with your water supply.
Another idea is to move your Oriental rug closer to your tree — perhaps where your family will sit to open presents. If you use a tree skirt here, it may need to be smaller.
Seasonal Accent Rugs
Finally, can a bridge be built between your vision and your budget? What we mean is this: the design of your Oriental rug and the style of holiday decorations you’re putting up may be able to “meet in the middle” with a secondary accent rug that ties both of these together.
How will you be decking the halls this year?
