Chalshotor is a city in north of Shahrekur, and it’s one of the most important commercial centers of the province, while its name accompanies some subtle Bakhtiari productions. In the urban workshops, many rugs are weaved, the most of which are destined to export, and have much subtlety and symmetrical knots on cotton yarn warp. The weft is made of cotton yarn as well and passes twice from each wate and stamped strictly and eventually it makes the rug much more compact. Also, you can find woolen warp rugs in local market, which demonstrate the 19th century productions in this region, since Chalshotor was an active commercial center and there used to be sold all weaved crafts of around tribes.
The weaving method there has more density compared to other near regions, often counts 4000 wates per square Dm. The wool used for pile is interestingly bright and even today are dyed by natural colors and it has mild warm colors.
Usually, weaving rugs in dimensions of prayer-rug is so much common. The use design includes multiple part and medallion ones, just like other Charmahal rugs. The medallion in these rugs are diamond shaped and has two tassel-like shaped with dark colors around which help the medallion outstand. On the background, some complex branches are weaved , among which you can see paisley and birds. The multiple-part design is not much different from Shahrekurd one. The background is divided into some squares inspired from garden-pattern designs. In addition to flowers, weeping willows, and cedars, there are some repetitive squares of birds and paisley illustrated as pair boxes, called “miri” paisley or “mother-daughter” paisley. Another interesting design consists of a web whose squares turn into diamonds.
