How to Use 6×9 Rugs in Your Decor
Rugs come in all shapes and sizes. We carry round, rectangular, palace-sized, runners, area rugs, and everything in between. One particular size that sometimes stumps even experienced design enthusiasts is a 6×9 rug. These aren’t exactly small, but they’re also not extremely large. So, where can you use 6×9 rugs in your home?
Here are a handful of places where this size of rug would work perfectly in the modern house.
Living Room
Many newer-built homes feature an open floor plan or layout. The entryway often opens up into a great room that is also connected to the dining area as well as the kitchen. This can make it hard to select one rug that will tie together the entire space.
Using multiple 6×9 rugs in these areas can highlight the difference between sitting areas and those designated for eating.
Small Bedroom
A standard bedroom often measures sizes such as 10 x 14. You’d typically choose a 9×12 rug in these rooms to fill the entire space. A 6×9 rug would be a good option if you’d like your rug to lay only halfway under the bed. If your bedrooms are smaller, for example, 8×10 or so, then a 6×9 rug would be the perfect addition, filling the entire space while leaving the recommended 6 or more inches between the rug edge and the wall.
Dining Room
Do you have a formal dining room? A 6×9 rug here would work well to highlight your dining table and other accent furniture. As we mentioned earlier, if your dining room is connected to other living areas through an open floor plan, then utilizing a 6×9 rug here will create a defined separation between these two sections of your home.
Home Office
We’ve mentioned this many times before, but it bears repeating. The pandemic shifted the business world. Now, more and more people are working from home and need dedicated home offices to work out of. A rug often completes the design of a room, ties all of the elements together, or can act as a conversation piece in a space.
Some Places to Avoid
6×9 rugs are slightly less suited to a couple of specific areas in your home. A room smaller than those dimensions is an obvious example. However, a couple of other spaces include your bathrooms and stairways. A runner rug would fit these two areas more appropriately. Otherwise, a 6×9 rug wouldn’t look right in the space.
