Amongst the Armenian community of this district, Lilihan carpets are the most famous. These rugs are velvety surface and are finely woven. The design and to a certain extent the colors of the Lilian carpets resemble those of the “American Sarugh”. This design came about through the activities of a representative for a New York firm (who chose patterns among those commonly used in Arak and Sarugh designs). These were characterized by long pile in different sizes, red or light beige fields with dark blue borders.
