Transforming Your Space with Over-Dyed Rugs

Are you seeking creative inspiration for your upcoming home decor update? If so, then you’ve come to the right place today. In recent blogs, we’ve focused on a unique category: over-dyed rugs. To help you start your interior design journey, we thought we’d cover ways of transforming your space—specifically, the benefits of decorating with over-dyed rugs.

Let’s begin with a basic idea: picking the primary colors of your room.

1. Pick your primary colors.

Many builders and interior designers will tell you that the first place you need to begin is with a plan. Before you can update your home, start with the most basic component. In this case, what colors are you planning to incorporate into your decor?

Remember, a rug can contrast and complement your room’s color pallet. Sometimes, a homeowner will go with a darker rug with white walls. In other situations, they want a more uniform look.

Remember, an over-dyed rug often has a faded or darkened look. Remember this, and know what you want before purchasing anything. That will help with the next part of the process.

2. Consider your decorations and accent colors.

By accents, we’re referring to everything from your photography, your frames, the wood of your fireplace mantel, and the decorative objects you place on your coffee table. In light of what we just said, you can go for a uniform look, a contrasting one, or even a Bohemian vibe.

Now, think about the nature of an over-dyed rug. How will it blend in with these pieces? Will it act as the grounding element or stand apart as a unique component?

3. Examine your furniture placement.

Next up, you should consider your furniture layout. This may be the second most crucial component of decorating with over-dyed rugs.

There are several ways to arrange your living room to accommodate a rug. One possibility is an all-over approach, where your area rug encompasses almost the entire space. Another is a “to the rear” styling, where the back legs of your furniture rest on the edge of the rug. Front-only is a third option, while no legs on is a fourth possibility.

Once again, keep in mind the artistic beauty of an over-dyed rug. How will it fit into your space within your layout?

4. Work with the size of your room.

Finally, consider one quick note on over-dyed rugs and spacing. Just because an over-dyed rug has been transformed doesn’t mean you should forgo spacing best practices. You will want at least six to nine inches between the edge of your rug and where your wall meets your flooring.

Here, focus on the color of your baseboards. How will they look (relatively) next to the unique look of an over-dyed rug?
