Finding High-Quality Rugs on Clearance
Picture this scenario: it’s a Saturday morning, and you and your spouse have embarked on a journey to find the perfect rug for your updated living room. However, you’re worried about a few things. First, is the rug going to fit in your home? Second, is the rug you’re about to purchase high-quality? Finally, once you arrive at your local rug retailer, how do you determine the quality of the rugs you see on clearance?
What are a few things to look for when determining a rug’s quality? Here are our considerations to keep in mind as you get started.
1. How do you double-check the authenticity and quality of a rug?
Perhaps the last thing we need to address is the difference between a rug “for sale” and a rug “on sale.” While we’ve generally referred to both as “on-sale” today, there is an important distinction to be made.
Sometimes, a retailer will price lower-quality merchandise at a cheaper price point. However, as we’ve already mentioned, this isn’t always the case. Sometimes, a retailer will simply run sales to clear out existing high-quality inventory to make room for new rugs. So, what is the best way to determine the quality of a rug on sale?
That’s easy: its materials. High-quality rugs will be made of high-quality materials. Often, they’ll be hand-woven or hand-tufted, and each rug will be distinctly different. Plus, you will see a higher knot count on the back of a high-quality rug. The higher the knot count, the more durable the rug will be.
2. Where will you use the rug?
Quality is important; there’s no doubt about that. However, no matter what type of rug you’re scanning the clearance section for, you need to keep in mind where you plan to use the rug in your home. For example, will it be in your living room and in a high-traffic area? Or will it be in a bedroom under or beside your bed?
Where you use it can determine the quality of materials you’ll need in the rug you purchase.
3. What is your budget?
Although cost doesn’t always correlate directly to the rug’s quality, your budget is still a significant consideration. Using your money wisely is important, yes. However, don’t let the price of a rug deter you from considering it. Sometimes, retailers run sales on high-quality rugs to clear out older inventory. Often, you can find excellent deals at Rug source because we have an extensive clearance section and offer multiple sales throughout the year.
4. Does size affect the cost?
Another consideration for an area rug is how big the rug is. When you find one that fits your sizing needs, turn it over. Inspect the weaving pattern. Do the knots look uniform or are there minor imperfections?
This can have a huge impact on whether or not the rug is high-quality. If there are imperfections in the knots or design, this is indicative of a handmade rug. Ironically, these are much higher quality and can withstand both foot traffic and furniture better than machine-made alternatives.
